Sir Henry Wotton (1568 - 1639)

English poet and diplomat.

Born in Kent, Wotton studied in Oxford, where he met John Donne, the poet. He was the secretary to the Earl of Essex, then ambassador to the court of Venice, and later provost of Eton College. None of Wotton's poetry was published during his lifetime but in1651 his collected works were issued as Reliquiae Wottonianae.
